Meeting of the Minds (MOTM) Parrotheads Live Music Sunset Sail
featuring Thom Shepherd

Nov. 3

photos of furys island adventure with snorkeling and kayakingWhile everyday in Key West could be described as "Wasting away again in Margaritaville…," the Parrothead’s Meeting of the Minds (MOTM) only happens once a year. Keeping with that longstanding tradition, Fury Water Adventures is proud to host a very special Commotion on the Ocean sunset sail bash on November 3.

Texas by way of Nashville singer/songwriter Thom Shepherd will take to the forward deck to rock the boat with his storyteller-style trop rock and country tunes. You may be familiar with some of the hits he’s written including "Red Neck Yacht Club," "Beer Season" and "Cheaper To Keep Her." Having written over 90 cuts for such country stars as Easton Corbin, George Jones, Montgomery Gentry and the Grammy-nominated title track for Tracy Lawrence’s "The Rock," Shepherd’s devoted the last year to performing his own music.

We’re thrilled to have him aboard the Caribbean Fury for a lively concert in salute to the Key West lifestyle. His latest CD, "Live From Key West," was recorded last year during the Meeting of the Minds festivities, as well as his first music video "Sand In Her Shoes." There’s plenty of partying to be had up and down Duval Street during MOTM; but true Parrotheads know they can live the dream aboard the Commotion on the Ocean with Fury, the most unique and exciting music venue in Key West. Come enjoy margaritas, ice cold beer and a stunning Key West sunset at sea with Fury and Thom Shepherd.

Fantasy Fest

Oct. 19 - Oct. 28
photo of fantasy fest
What’s the only holiday that Fury Water Adventures observes every year by closing early? None other than the annual Fantasy Fest Parade. While our operation is in full swing throughout the festivities, Saturday night of the parade, there’s only one attraction that both Key West residents and visitors are interested in–and it’s not the sunset!

If you’ve never been to Key West during Fantasy Fest, the parade is the culmination of ten nights of wild costume parties where floats and revelers parade all over town throwing beads to a raucous crowd. This year’s theme, A-Conch-Alypse, promises to inspire many creative costumes. Think scantily clad zombies, aliens and science experiments gone terribly wrong!

For any true lover of Key West, Fantasy Fest is definitely an experience that must be had at least once. Some favorite parties amongst the Fury crew include Fogarty’s Red Party, Sloppy Joe’s Toga Party and the Local’s Walking Parade. While the party is definitely on the street, there’s nothing like a sail out to the reef for some relief from it all. If you’re here during Fantasy Fest, we certainly hope to see you at the party and on the water!

NEWS

Womenfest
Sept. 7, 2012

womensfest
At Fury, we’ve long had reason for celebration in September when WomenFest hits the island. We love getting out on the water for our exclusive Ultimate Adventure and Commotion on the Ocean parties – girls only!

This year was no different as we welcomed new and old faces aboard our 65’ catamarans. The Ultimate Adventure was a blast with a full day devoted to snorkeling, parasailing, jet skiing, and more.

Our WomenFest Commotion on the Ocean rocked with special guest artists Corday & the Cougars. They had the crowd on their feet as the sun sank into the ocean. As always, cold margaritas, beer, wine, and champagne were free flowing. We love our ladies all year long; but there’s something extra special about our WomenFest celebration in September. Here’s to the ladies!

Fury Staff Spotlight

An Interview with...

Name:
Allison Diange

Job:
Fury Private Charter Coordinator-extraordinaire

Age:
28

Romantic Status:
Just Married!

Where are you from?
Cornwall, NY. It’s a small suburb about an hour and a half north of the city.

How long have you been in Key West?
6 years

How long have you worked at Fury?
4-ish years.

How did you end up in Key West?
I visited Key West a few times on vacation and decided to make the move down after college. It’s been almost seven years; but every day I find or learn something new about the island.

Who’s your Key West role model?
James Chapman riding a bike and rockin’ out. It can’t be beat. Or for some major brownie points, Nadene Grossman!

What’s your favorite Key West restaurant?
Better Than Sex, A Dessert Restaurant

Best thing on the menu?
Tongue Bath Truffle. I am a dessert junkie.

What do you actually do all day at work?
Answer calls and inquires that come in for private charters. I would say that 95% of inquiries are from brides who would like to either have their wedding on the boat or their welcome reception; so there are a lot of emails and calls regarding setup and logistics. The evenings of the charters, I go down to the docks to greet the guests and make sure they get off all right. VIP service all the way!

What’s the best thing about your job?
Working with such a great team.

What’s the last movie you saw at The Tropic?
Rock of Ages (for the second time)! LOVED it and sang out loud. I am a sucker for musicals and anything Broadway. I went with the hubby. I declined to tell him it was a musical. Not sure if he will be going back to the movies with me anytime soon.

Scott Schmidt

What’s the last thing you bought at the Surf Shack?
A pair of gold Reef sandals.

Favorite Key West watering hole?
Either Captain Tony’s for their Pirate Punch or a Bloody from Don’s Place—either one will do the trick!

Favorite Fantasy Fest costume you’ve worn?
Homemade jellyfish costume complete with Slinkys, glow sticks and lots of bubble wrap!

Favorite Fantasy Fest costume you’ve seen on someone else?
A giant popped collar. That was the entire costume - just a giant cardboard popped collar—genius.

What’s the most prized possession in your house?
Johnny, my bluenose pit/weimaraner.

When’s bedtime?
I’m so lame… usually around 10pm.

Means of transportation?
Mostly the scooter when I know I am going to be running around town; but I do have a car for the rainy days.

What do you miss about living on the mainland?
I really miss the snow from up north. Not a light dusting, but some serious snow.

What’s a typical day off?
Take Johnny to Dog Beach early in the morning and then go for a run. I try to make it to either Southernmost Pool or Fort Zach by 12ish.

What’s an ideal day off?
Grab a quick breakfast at Goldman’s, pack the boat and then spend the day at Boca Grande or Snipes with friends.

What was your last vacation?
Went up to Montauk, NY for a week this past July to get married and hang out with the family. It was a nice, low-key vacation with fishing and relaxing on the beach—exactly what was needed.

What makes someone a Conch?

When you can call anyone and everyone "Cuz."

New Town or Old Town?
Mid Town!
