Cool Treats To Beat The Heat

June 12th, 2010

A busy day on the parasail docks.

by Shayne Benowitz

There is no denying that this island has heated up in a flash over the last couple of weeks. While many lament the humidity and the sweltering sun, most of us at Fury are thrilling over ideal conditions on the water. Hot sun, cool ocean, soft breeze, calm seas, and unlimited visibility at the reef.

Working in the sun can sometimes act as an appetite suppressant, but we all need fuel to get through the day. This time of year, we’re craving cold, fresh, and filling treats and meals. There’s not always a lot of time, so we’re big fans of anything that’s mobile and delivery is a must. Here’s a quick guide to some Fury-tested and approved quick bites to take the edge off the summer heat: Read the rest of this entry »

Fury’s Wedding Of The Century

June 6th, 2010

Ryan and Ashleigh and their first dance.

by Shayne Benowitz

It was a decidedly balmy evening as former Fury check-in dude Ryan Schmedeman wed Ashleigh Cline (parasail mate Justin’s sister) at the idyllic Southernmost House. The intimate ceremony was conducted with the placid waters of the Atlantic as the backdrop. Parasail mate Stephen was amongst the groomsmen in handsome tan suits and the bridesmaids looked pretty in mint green confections. Read the rest of this entry »

Marius, Nicole, and Westy compete.

by Shayne Benowitz

This weekend marked the 13th Annual Key West Paddleboard Classic, and the second year that Fury’s own Captain Westy has headed the event. Over 150 paddlers descended for the 12 mile race around the island, nearly doubling the turnout from the previous year. Read the rest of this entry »

The Couple That Parasails Together…

May 6th, 2010

by Shayne Benowitz

Apparently there’s a new trend in wedding traditions. After a couple gets married, instead of stashing the white dress and tux in the back of the closet, they partake in a crazy activity and “trash the dress.” We had two couples from Napa, California join us for parasailing this week with just that in mind! Sky High is Fury’s FIFTH!

Sky High

Sky High

by Shayne Benowitz

This week marked another historic moment for Fury Water Adventures as our fifth parasail boat—that’s right, FIFTH!—arrived in Key West early Monday morning. Davey and Justin were the first to greet her, Charlie and I spent a day preparing for her Coast Guard inspection, and Adam and Rob took her on her inaugural trip with a boatload of customers. The Atlantic Fury at sunset

The fleet is complete again! After spending the winter months in a New Orleans boatyard, the Atlantic Fury has returned to her slip into the Key West sunset. The oldest catamaran in our fleet at 13 years old, the Atlantic went through a major overhaul. From the inside out, she’s a brand new vessel. Read the rest of this entry »

Massacoustics Rock The Commotion

April 15th, 2010

By Shayne Benowitz

The Massacoustics have long had a strong following in Key West, performing regularly at Hogs Breath, the Songwriter’s Festival, and most recently aboard the Commotion on the Ocean. They headlined a sold out sunset earlier this month. I’ll admit, I’d heard the buzz about the Massacoustics for years, but I’d never seen them perform. I quickly realized what I’d been missing out on. Read the rest of this entry »
