What a busy weekend it’s been! Saturday, almost every single one of our trips was sold out. There have also been parties every night in celebration of Fourth of July Weekend. As Captain Marius said to me, “We work while everyone else gets to play.” Well, I have to say, at Fury we work hard to strike a balance!
For many Fury crewmembers, the Fourth of July means a 15 hour workday. Of course, that workday consists of snorkeling, kayaking, jet skiing, and watching the sunset—and on the Fourth, watching fireworks out at sea. It’s all in a hard day’s work! This was the first time in three years that I wasn’t scheduled on the catamarans for this long day.
Captain Marius and I teamed up on the Fury Flyer and parasailed boatloads of friends and families enjoying their holiday weekend with us. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, and Marius and I couldn’t get over how crystal clear the water was. It felt like the parasail boat was floating in thin air as we glided across the ocean’s surface gazing at the sandy seafloor with patches of turtle grass.
It was about 7pm by the time we’d finished our day and cleaned up the boat. Captain Scotty and Eli were working on Fly Girl in the slip next to us. We chatted on the docks for a little while, and Scotty invited us to a beachside party at his girlfriend’s sister’s house to watch the fireworks. I’ve had lots of fun working the Fourth on the catamarans, but I have to admit, it was a relief to know that my workday was done and I could go relax with friends.
Eli and I arrived just as the night sky was beginning to get dark. People were mingling on the back patio that opened up to the beach. There was quite the spread: crab legs, lobster, burgers, hotdogs, and fruit salad. Scotty was mixing mojitos in the kitchen. We sat on a beach blanket with Ashley, Riaan, and his little girl Ariaana, and oohhed and ahhhed at the gorgeous fireworks show. It was the perfect grand finale to a busy day at work. Gotta love the Fourth! Happy Independence Day and here’s to summertime!
