Every once in awhile someone will ask me if we do fishing charters at Fury Water Adventures. While we’ve got you covered when it comes to snorkeling, parasailing, jet skiing, dolphin watching, and sunset sailing, fishing is one water sport we don’t offer. Of course, Key West and the Florida Keys are renowned for being home to some of the world’s best fishing. There’s an abundance of charter boats to get you out there in the flats or the deep sea.
The big win!
While we don’t offer fishing charters, we do sponsor an award-winning fishing team that just took home the top prize in the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce fishing tournament with a $7,500 win. The team consists of multi-generational conchs Randy Sterling Sr., Randy Sterling Jr., and Shane Curry. They’ve fished together for over 30 years and competitively for the last 10. Randy Sr. has competition in his blood as he’s a former MLB player for the Mets.
Shane hooked the winning fish at a whopping 42.6 pounds. The guys also took home the prize in 2011 with Randy Sr.’s 44.8 pound fish. It was an exciting day on the water with Rick Murphy of SUN Sport’s TV show “Chevy Florida Insider Fishing Report” hosting the tournament, as well as fishing in it.
We’re proud of these guys and their accomplishments. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll get in on the charter fishing business! In the meantime, we’re happy to recommend some great Key West fishing guides.
