There’s nothing like a family vacation to relax and reconnect with the ones you love most. For Troop Rewards, the Tampa-based non-profit, their mission is to provide recovery vacations to recognize and thank returning US soldiers and their families who have served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
When we heard they were partnering with Sunset Key Guest Cottages for a vacation in September, we knew we had to be a part of it. Troop Rewards arranged for 10 military families–a total of 44 people–to stay at luxurious Sunset Key for five nights at no cost to the families. Talk about a dream vacation!
Sunset Key is a part of the Margaritaville Resort and Marina, which is where our headquarters are located. We work closely with their concierge and guests year round, and the ferry to Sunset Key is only a few slips down from our catamarans and parasail boats. We routinely pick up passengers directly from Sunset Key’s docks to go parasailing, and we collaborate with them for destination wedding sunset sails.
For the Troop Rewards vacation, we offered up our water sports to the families, and had them to choose from any of our trips. Our marketing dream team Eliza and Derek attended the welcome dinner at Sunset Key, along with Key West Mayor Cates and his wife, and they got to meet all of the families and enjoy a wonderful evening.
“It was so special. I cannot even tell you!” Eliza says.
It put a big smile on everyone’s face when the Fleurimond family posted a picture of their parasailing adventure to our Facebook wall. Seeing those smiling faces and reading that it was an experience their family will never forget, made our hearts happy.
That’s the part of this job that I’ve always loved most–the memory making part. To witness a family bonding and having the time of their lives on our boats is what it’s all about it. And it’s that much more special to be able to give back to the men and women in our country who sacrifice so much to secure our safety and freedom.
It was a true blessing to participate in this Troop Rewards vacation and we hope to do it again soon. Thank you to all the brave men and women who serve our country. Fury Water Adventures salutes you!
