The staffs of local watering holes compete for top honors in the Schooner Wharf Battle of the Bars drink-making competition. This hilarious all-in-fun relay race has raised almost a quarter-million dollars for charity throughout the years. This year’s entry fees and “bribes” will be donated to The Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition, benefiting babies and mothers as well as the Cancer Foundation of the Florida Keys, whose motto is “What’s raised in the Keys, stays in the Keys.” Besides the fastest teams, there will also be trophies and prizes for the Most Outrageous Team Costume and Deepest Pockets. Schooner Wharf Bar, 202 William Street. Opening ceremonies begin at 1:00 pm. The annual event is held during the first weekend of August.
It’s the start of Florida’s lobster season and Key West is celebrating with the annual Lobsterfest. Enjoy a long weekend celebration where lobster is the main dish. Festivities include a Thursday night lobster boil, Friday night Duval Crawl. On Saturday a street fair will take over Duval featuring lobster food vendors and a free concert. Always held on the 2nd weekend in August. On Sunday, enjoy a sumptuous lobster brunch at Smokin’ Tuna.
