Summertime in Key West is in full swing during July! Many fun events take place throughout the month, including Independence Day celebrations, Mel Fisher Days and Hemingway Days. Take advantage of the warm weather with outdoor activities like Fury’s Ultimate Adventure trip or the Key West Marlin Tournament.
Key Lime Festival
July 4 – July 7
The Florida Keys are famous for their limes and what better way to celebrate than a festival. Each year on the first weekend in July, Key West hosts a variety of Key lime inspired events. Contests include: Pie Eating, Martini Making, and of course a Key Lime Pie Making Championship.
4th of July Fireworks
Just like most cities across America, you can see fireworks throughout the evening from just about anywhere. However, there are only a few places on the island that allow for spectacular views. White Street Pier has a great view from the beach and Fury offers four trip options to see the fireworks while sailing the ocean. In addition to the fireworks, the Commotion on the Ocean cruise includes live music, a picnic dinner and views of the sunset while the Glass Bottom Boat trip includes a tour of the reef, a picnic dinner and views of the sunset. And for those interested exclusively in the burst of a good firework, hop aboard our lower capacity motorized catamaran for a picnic dinner and a spectacular view of the fireworks show. For a viewing experience like no other, we offer special 3-D glasses on each trip!
Annual Hospice and VNA 4th of July Picnic
Enjoy a fun crowd, traditional 4th of July BBQ buffets, and live music at the Casa Marina Resort and Beach Club. The event starts at 5pm with a fireworks show starting at 9pm. All the proceeds from the event go to benefit local charities.
July is historically one of the warmest months of the year in South Florida and temperatures will hover above 85 degrees on the regular. That means many of the locals and visitors of Key West like to cool off in the surrounding waters (and local bars)! Lucky for you, Fury offers an all-day Ultimate Adventure that combines our most popular watersports with refreshing beverages and fun times cruising on a state-of-the-art catamaran. The trip runs everyday from 10:30am-4:30pm. We recommend buying tickets online because July is right in the middle of summer vacation and space is limited.
It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere
What’s next after your Key West water adventure? Enjoy happy hour in paradise while noshing on delicious food and soaking in a great view of the Key West Historic Seaport. At Conch Republic Seafood Company, 2 for 1 beer, premium wells and house wines flow from 4-7pm daily at their bar and patio. Order a round and a plate of famous Key West pink peel & eat shrimp or a bowl of conch chowder. Then, grab a dance partner and groove to the beat of live music performed against a backdrop of the setting sun.
Mel Fisher Days
For more than 30 years, Key West has commemorated Mel Fisher’s famous 16-year search for the Spanish galleon Atocha and $450 million treasure discovery. Each year the celebration gains more popularity and typically runs the weekend after the 4th of July. There’s a block party on Duval street, private VIP tour of the museum conservation laboratory, and scavenger (treasure) hunt where the winner takes home a nice cash prize.
Each year, Key West hosts a week-long celebration in honor of Ernest Hemingway. Traditionally the event is held during the 2nd to last week in July and has to coincide with his birthday on July 21st. The schedule of events includes a Hemingway Look-alike contest at Sloppy Joes and the oldest 5k run/walk on the island. If you’re visiting during this event, be prepared to see a plethora of Hemingways all over the island!
When visiting Key West, it’s seldom about what to do, but what to do when you want to do it all! We hear ya, and that’s what the Ultimate Express is all about! Before you head out for an evening on the town, hang with us for a half-day of adventure that packs in all your favorites like parasailing, backcountry jet-skiing, a thrilling banana boat ride, and some slipping and sliding in Florida’s only certified ocean water park!
Team Challenge Done Island Style
Explore Key West like you never have before on a Southernmost Scavenger Hunt. Form into groups of 2 to 5 people, come up with a wacky team name, throw on your best costume and hit the streets of Key West. You’ll be given clues that direct you to the island’s most popular spots, and a few hidden gems, as you race to the finish line party. Choose between the classic hunt through downtown Old Key West or the Best of Bars challenge down Duval Street. This action-packed adventure is perfect for corporate events, wedding groups, birthday parties and locals who want to have a little fun in their home town.
Key West Marlin Tournament
Compete for more than $50,000 in cash prizes during this world-class fishing extravaganza. The tournament runs in conjunction with Hemingway Days to celebrate the love of sport fishing that Ernest cherished throughout his time in Key West. The tournament includes 3 days of fishing and a Saturday awards banquet to distribute all the prizes.
Mini Lobster Season
On the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July, take the opportunity to catch some Florida lobster before everyone else can! For 2 days, you can catch up to 6 lobsters per person. This quick event draws hundreds of boating enthusiasts to Key West in search of the perfect catch. The official Lobster season starts August 6th and runs for 8 months but the mini-season is annual tradition that people love to celebrate.
